Australian Greens Leader, Richard Di Natale, has said he is “gutted” following Larissa Waters’ resignation from the political party yesterday.
The announcement comes days after Greens Senator Scott Ludlam’s resignation over similar dual-citizenship circumstances, which make both members ineligible to hold office.
“This is an innocent mistake,” Senator Di Natale said.
“She’s paid a high price for this error.”
Senator Waters in her tenure worked to prevent damage to the Great Barrier Reef from the coal industry and challenged cuts to domestic violence services.
“Larissa has represented the people of Queensland with tenacity and passion throughout her life, and I know that’s not about to change,” Senator Di Natale said.
